A word from goa's joint Managing Directors

goa is a bit of an anomaly in the media business. It's privately owned, based in Brisbane and run by a couple of 40-something brothers. It's a very flat organisation so everyone has access to senior management for quick advice and decisions. We run it like that to ensure everyone here gets the advice, information, and resources they need to get on with the job. Our annual growth rate is always double digits, so we must be doing something right.

A lot of people come to goa and find they stay for years. We reward all our people based on their performance both as individuals and as a team. We don't care how old or young you are, just so long as you can excel in your role and be part of the team. Unlike most corporations we don't restrict the earning capacity of our sales staff. Finally, in what some corporations may find odd, we believe that if the organisation is to truly grow then we must continually invest in our people's growth by facilitating and encouraging them, not just with their professional development, but also their personal development.

The above probably sounds like a motherhood statement so here's proof that we walk the talk with a couple of examples of goa's people to give you a better idea of what could lay in store if you were to join us.

Deb (that's her real name) - joined goa in 1999 in the role of Financial Controller. Today she has grown to be the Group's Chief Financial Officer and is also on goa's acquisition and private equity team. Deb is a believer in life-long learning and to assist with her professional development we supported her in obtaining her executive MBA through QUT (which she completed in 2006), and in mid 2007 we sent Deb to the USA to attend a specialised executive course at Harvard University.

James (also his real name) - joined us as a receptionist in March 2006 pretty much straight out of school. James showed us a combination of intelligence and commitment, along with a desire and willingness to learn and advance himself, so earlier this year goa invested around $2,000 towards James's personal and career development putting him through an intensive 2 day course on presentation skills. Why put a receptionist through a presentation skills course you may ask? To help instil a greater sense of self confidence and prepare James for bigger and better things at goa. James has since been promoted and is now running the scheduling and organising of our installation crews, managing men twice his age. In less than two years with goa his salary has increase by more than 70%.

Both Deb and James contribute to the overall performance of the team which means they share in the reward. Last year the team went to Hong Kong and China as reward for achieving set annual targets, and both partake in goa's subsidised boot camp sessions helping them get their day off to a healthy start. In addition to this they also get rewarded based on their individual performance via an annual discretionary bonus pool.

It all sounds great doesn't it, but that's because we have people on board who are committed to making goa the preeminent Outdoor advertising provider in Queensland. Opportunities may exist in the areas of media sales, administration, finance, development, production and installation, and other areas we haven't even considered yet. goa doesn't often have positions to fill, because our people seldom leave, but we work on the basis that if we see a person with the right mix of energy, intelligence and integrity we'll create a role for them.

If you feel you could excel at goa, want to work in an organisation that takes your career and your personal development seriously, want to be part of a great team of people, and maybe want to learn a couple of new tricks from a couple of old dogs then send us your CV.

Cheers

Chris and John Tyquin
